Guardians of the Gut website officially launched!

22/07/2020   Sami

Guardians of the Gut is an exciting new resource that is designed to teach children about the importance of their gut microbiome.

Guardians of the Gut

Too small to see but outnumbering our human cells, the bacteria in our gut join us at birth and grow and change with us as we age. The fun activities available on the website explain the different organs within the human body, introduce key microbes and the beneficial jobs they do and explore how invading bad bacteria and antibiotics can upset the balance.

Once enrolled, schools can add as many teachers, classes and students as they like and have access to three classroom activities (The human body, Microbiome and Antibiotics) as well as pre- and post-activity quizzes which enable each teacher to see how much their students have learnt.

As an extra bonus, not only will the schools get a certificate once they have completed the quizzes but they will automatically be entered into a prize draw to win lots of scientific goodies!

This fantastic project was developed by The Hall Lab at the Quadram Institute in collaboration with the SAW Trust and developmental psychologist Dr Georgia Panagiotaki from the University of East Anglia.

It was funded by a Microbiology in Society Award, a Wellcome Trust Engagement Fellowship, an Impact Accelerator Award and the Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council.
