Blue bacteria
Like a marble cut in half,
blue, black and white,
jewels around a white eyeball,
clouds surrounded by black raindrops,
black marbles sparkling like diamonds,
a pair of binoculars left in the mud,
black circles like aliens,
bouncing around the clouds.

Plant science
Leaves with millions of molecules
fighting plant-eating bugs.
Multi-coloured petals wave
at the tips of long, thin stems.
Bright yellow pollen is collected
by busy, buzzing bees.
Spotted red ladybugs
drift through the air.
Bright petals spring forth
like a Jack-in-a-box.
Lovely purple lavender
fills the air with a colourful scent.
Xena Dyball Age 9
Science nose
As I crush the molecules with my fingers
cells explode like a bomb.
Chemicals zoom upwards into my nostrils.
Strange smells make my brain dance.
Lloyd Sayer Age 8
Spreading colours
Colourful flames, the light looks alive,
spreading slowly across the paper.
Multi-coloured molecules,
chemicals mixing together,
sparkling in the light,
dancing in the alcohol.

Pink flowers
Pink flowers
exploding
into the high sky.
The pictures of dots
look like chickenpox.

Jewellery fractal
I am the jewellery fractal
mistress and will now make
the sky turn into jewels.
I will make the ocean turn
into tiny sky blue crystals.
I will make jewellery for
animals.
I will make jewellery for the
moon and all the planets.
I will throw crystals into
the sky.
I will put pink crystals in
the clouds.
Nadine Kersey Age 9
My tree
Shiny little tiny seeds
that fly in the sky
floating on the turquoise sea as you walk by.
As it grows into a sapling it looks like a
small mouse that is
covered in a protector that they call a
little house.
After a wait it grows
into a young tree
as green as a
light blue sea.
Growing and growing
into a chestnut tree
already nearly as tall
as me!
Another year goes
and the tree it still grows.
Amber Wilson Age 10
The cell
Like holey cheese floating in the blackness of the universe,
a green pea the size of a flea falling through never-ending nothingness,
tense like a planet ready to explode and drop endlessly through space,
as green as frog spawn lying at the bottom of a river of pure black water,
isolated and defenceless as the inside of a lettuce,
the evergreen mould off a piece of bread shut in a cramped old cupboard.

Looking Back
Out here I can see
Your world going round and round.
Rocks crashing
Down and down.
Pigs snorting
Louder and louder.
People on the Great Wall of China,
Dancing the cha cha cha.

The Yellow Moon of Jupiter
Whizzing past the many stars
Whooshing past Jupiter and Mars,
Almost there, the time is noon.
I am trying to visit the Yellow Moon!
Quite often the Yellow Moon turns inside out,
Volcanoes arriving all about.
Imagine a strawberry flavour jelly-like floor,
Wibbling and wobbling,
Show me the door!
Lava and molten rock spilling everywhere,
Houses fall down all the time, BEWARE!
Bright dotty creatures jumping, eating
Others giving each other a good hard beating!
Suddenly the whole moon starts to shake,
It looks like it’s about to break.
I jump into my space ship quick,
Just as all the volcanoes start to spit.
I start to lift off, just in time
Quickly every dotty creature starts to climb
Up the trees that are the colour of lime!
I look out of my small circular window
It looks like it’s about to blow!
A large crack appears down the side
As each little creature starts to slide.

Salt Crystals
Squares falling from the sky,
Square pictures floating in the sky,
Kites flying up into the sky,
A sunset with ice cubes,
Little pictures falling,
Diamonds sparkling,
Kaleidoscope.

Under the Microscope
Here is a lively ocean, splashing,
playing. Swirling and rippling round
and round. An island in the distance,
lonely and unharmed. A salty smell
and fresh air taste. A luminous
turquoise gaining in depth. Occasional
shades of red and white reflected
in the sun, lost in the sea. Greens
of seaweed tangled, churning,
searching for a way out. Its
purpose is to breathe in and out,
in and out, a relaxed movement.
Each ripple, each wave has a
shore and will do anything to
reach it.

Thoughts on a Christmas Rose Leaf
Bumpy,
A tadpole,
Looks like a mountain,
Rough, oval shape,
A coral reef,
A whale swimming in an underground cave,
A picture taken under the sea by a diver,
A cliff with a lighthouse on top.

Nerves
Bursting with colour,
Like fireworks filling the sky.
Nerves sending messages to the brain,
Sparks flying around the body,
Bright colours floating through
Arms and legs.
Flashes magnified thousands of times,
Planted seeds sown in the night.
