SAW projects have proved immensely popular with children and teachers alike. They have spanned varying age ranges and abilities, and have given us valuable insights into helping spark engagement in the classroom. We have worked closely with the staff in each school to tailor each project to specific learning outcomes.
A teacher’s aid book packed with hints and tips on running a science, art and writing event in schools is currently in production. You can download a sample chapter here and register your interest so we can let you know as soon as the book is available.
There are also tips on running your own SAW project in Professor Osbourn's Guide to teaching poetry in schools. You may also be interested in her article on breaking down barriers between art and science.
SAW founder Anne Osbourn has delivered many workshops for teachers and educational advisers in the UK and internationally. To find out more, visit ‘SAW for teachers’.
“SAW reminded me of why I took up teaching in the first place.”
John Nicholson, artist, retired chemistry teacher and science education lecturer
“For the children to have the chance to access the knowledge, inspiration and ideas of the three experts was terrific. They had a great day. The excitement of seeing the test tubes and equipment made them feel like they were ‘in a real lab’. I will long remember their faces. The concept is superb. It works wonderfully and has informed my teaching during the last year.”
Nick King, Barford Primary School
“The children were enthralled and very positive about the activities.”
Isabel Smith, Spooner Row Primary School
